Chuck Carter
PI & Center Director

Chuck began his technical career with the United States Air Force in 1967 as an Aircraft Electronic Navigation Systems Technician. Towards the end of this period, Chuck became heavily involved in training for the USAF and several foreign Air Forces, including an extended stay with Brazilian military students. Upon leaving the military in 1976, he worked for a short period with Brown and Root Instrument maintenance, ultimately ending up with Mobay (now Bayer) Corporation. While at Bayer, Chuck worked his way from positions as an Instrument technician, I&E shop supervisor, and Instrument trainer, to become the Process Control Systems Training Supervisor for Bayer’s Baytown and Houston facilities.

In 1995, Chuck left Bayer to pursue his passion for stand up instruction at Lee College as a full time instructor in Instrumentation and in Process Technology. Chuck’s belief in the validity of hands-on experience prompted him to champion the building of a full scale processing facility at the college, which went on-line in 1998. Because of the unit’s success, and to respond to the stated needs of end users, the college was awarded a $1,800,000 National Science Foundation matching grant to develop maintenance education for fieldbusses and emerging technologies affecting our industry. Chuck now serves as the Center Director for the Lee College Center for Digital and Fieldbus Technological Education.
